STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar is raring to put an Asian spin in its eclectic slew of Christmas buffet classics and festive signature dishes this holiday season from 23 to 26 December 2016 and 30 December 2016 to 2 January 2017.
The herald of year-end festivities sees the jolly additions of Celebration Action STations (CASTS) in the cosy restaurant of Bay Hotel Singapore. One of the main ‘CASTS’, or the ultimate crowd pleaser is “Feast of the Seven Fishes” which is inspired by the Italian-American celebration of Christmas Eve with meals of fish and other seafood but prepared in various styles with an Asian twist at STREET 50.
You would be in seventh heavens with the Cajun Prawns, Stuffed Squid with Chinese Glutinous Rice, Scallops Mornay – Creamy Gratin, Mussels in Garlic Butter, Ikan Cincaru Sumbat Sambal, Sea Salt Baked Grouper Fillet and Masala Slipper Lobster. The most famous dish for Southern Italians is baccala or salted cod fish but Chef Kelvin Lim and his culinary team have reinvented it to suit Asian liking, hence, the birth of Sea Salt Baked Grouper Fillet. The Vigil, another term for ‘Feast of the Seven Fishes’, is best enjoyed when served with dips and accompaniments like Tabasco, Mustard, Sambal, Barbecue Sauce, Cocktail Sauce, Thai Nam Jim and lemon wedges.
Tradition has it that the Christmas carvings are must-haves and one of the CASTS -“Cravings for Carvings” – embodies the Asian tastes with the likes of Tandoori Turkey Breast as well as Balinese Roast Beef Striploin and Asians’ favorite Honey Baked Chicken Ham, perfectly served with dips and accompaniments like Wholegrain Mustard, Chef’s Brown Sauce as well as Cucumber and Onion Raita.
One of the other live CASTS is “Pasta Fiesta” featuring the Spaghetti, Penne and Fettuccine with compatible pasta sauces like Lemak Chilli Padi, Chilli Crab, Classic Cream and Basil Tomato and served with generous toppings and accompaniments like Parmesan Cheese, Peeled Prawns, Shredded Chicken, White Clams, Sautéed Mushroom and Sliced Garlic & Olive Oil. How can pasta be taken out of the equation amidst the festive revelry?
Whilst the Must-have Oyster Shooters is bound to steal the limelight from the King Crab Legs, Poached Prawns and Mussels at the Seafood Ice Bar, the Appetizer Appeal is fast to catch on with delectable starters like Mango, Scallops and Prawns Ceviche in Thai Palm Sugar Dressing, Salmon Gravlax in Japanese Shoyu Vinaigrette, Prawn Tikka Skewers with Raita and Chocolate Orange Dip, Winter Vegetable Mini Tarts, Candied Sweet Potatoes and Sea Asparagus and Blue Mussel in Mango and Ginger Dressing. Be it the Soup Cauldron of Lobster Bisque or French Onion Soup served with the bakery-fresh assortment in the Bread Basket, it will be the perfect prelude to the dizzying array of main courses.
Entice your palate with Entrée Festive selections such as Turkey Rendang, the (Curry Puff–Inspired) Kheema Shepherd’s Pie and Italian Herb Seafood Fried Rice amongst other hot, savory dishes like Rosemary Roasted Root Vegetables, Guinness Lamb Stew, Broiled Chicken Duxelles, Baked Cheese Prawns and Poached Snapper Ala Nage.
Be sure to cap off the sumptuous buffet feast with Delish Desserts like Cranberry Poached Pears with Red Wine, Christmas Log Cake, Stollen, Assorted Pralines & Cookies, Assorted French Pastries and more for a taste of Christmas closer to home.
The last, but never the least in importance for CASTS, is “Chendol Christmas Eggnog”. In fact, it is a Signature Christmas Classic of Creamy Eggnog with Chendol. Traditionally consumed throughout the United States at Christmas every year, the chendol ingredients in the ‘milk punch’ blends harmoniously with the Coconut Malibu Rum to give it a frothy rich texture.
Some of my personal ‘must try’ favourite is Chicken Rendang and Fried Rice. The fried rice is so tasty and extremely addictive and goes really well with rendang sauce. And of course their chendol.. the serving is very generous, can share with friends.
